Where Have All the Loricariids Gone?
Loricariids, a family of fish including the popular plecostomus, are vulnerable to habitat changes due to dams in South America.
For World Fish Migration Day, Absolutely Fish drew attention to loricariids and their peril in South America. Known more commonly as suckermouth catfish, loricariids (including plecostomus and otocinclus) are threatened by dam construction along the Amazon river system. Information on several loricariid species was be featured along with a map of the threatened habitats of these fish.
